Strategies to Organize Clients with ADD / ADHD CD

People who have ADD/ADHD (attentiondeficit/hyperactivity disorder) are often exceptionally bright, creative, and interesting. They are also exceptionally challenged by seemingly simple tasks. Masters of the big idea, they fall apart when it comes to details and follow through. They can run a successful company, but feel overwhelmed when they have to organize a closet. The less stimulating a task, the less likely they are to complete it. Since housework and paperwork are not very stimulating, people with ADD are often in need of the services of a professional organizer. Not every PO can work with ADD clients, and it is important to know your limits. The ADD client will know if you are judgmental, frustrated or believe they should be able to Just DO it. If they could they would, and your help wouldnt be needed. This session will help POs understand the basics of the neurobiological disability known as ADD or ADHD, the issues and special needs of these clients, and how to successfully work with people who tend to think outside the box, are easily distracted, and require organizational systems and strategies that may appear illogical, but are appropriate for the way they think.
