How does one define ethical behavior as it relates to the organizing industry? Is there a point after which it becomes no longer ethical to continue working with a client? Do we breach our ethical responsibility to the public by accepting jobs which we know other organizers may be more qualified to perform? What is the obligation of an organizer who is aware of the unethical behavior of a colleague? This interactive panel discussion will explore these questions and more. Participants will divide into groups to discuss some common ethical dilemmas they are likely to encounter in the field and will leave with a heightened consciousness to make appropriate ethical decisions as a means of achieving and maintaining the integrity of the organizing industry. Barry J. Izsak of Arranging It All has been helping corporate and residential clients in Austin, Texas, get organized since 1996. He currently serves on the NAPO Executive Certification Committee as ethics/discipline chair and actively works with the Central Texas Organizers in Austin. Our distinguished panel includes Glorya Schklair, an organizer for over 30 years who has served on the National Board; Ann Gambrell, a founding member of NAPO and chair of numerous committees, including Golden Circle; Barbara Hemphill, a past National President of NAPO and author of Taming the Paper Tiger book and software series; and Audrey Lavine, veteran organizer, industry activist and president of NAPO-NY.
