Reengineering has been defined as the concurrent redesign of processes, organizations, and systems to
achieve radical improvement in time, cost, or customer attitude. This session will introduce a conceptual
framework for reengineering, following a case study through the steps of a typical reengineering project:
Discover, Hunt and Gather, Innovate and Build, and Reorganize, Retrain, and Retool. While formal
reengineering has been most visibly deployed in large corporations, using sophisticated quantitative analysis,
we can develop "rules of thumb" that can apply to smaller businesses as well. H. Clark Kee combines academic training in anthropology of literature at Yale with 20 years' experience in technology management. While at Bristol-Myers he led development of an integrated manufacturing system that used a network of the earliest IBM PCs; at Morgan-Stanley he managed the software support team providing software development and consulting services.
