The primary role for collaborative lawyers is to empower our clients to negotiate effectively for themselves. It is therefore of key importance for collaborative lawyers to become highly skilled negotiators. In this workshop participants will explore Interest Based Negotiation and learn how to move clients from positions to interests, how and when to develop settlement options, and how to turn options into settlements; how to recognize and manage the challenges of advocacy in a collaborative context; and how to bring the law into the collaborative process as a tool and not a weapon.
