The use of a mental health professional (MHP) to prepare a parent for a child custody evaluation (CCE) is controversial, and raises legal and ethical dilemmas for evaluators, courts, parents, and the mental health consultant. Because the MHP is hired as a consultant by the parents attorney, the consultants identity and work is protected by the attorney-client privilege.
